They’ve done it again.
The Cascade High school swim teams are back to back ICC champions.
Reclaiming the title for swim is a big deal. Longtime coach Paul Williams said, “All conference meets are important meets. But, winning the conference championship is of great importance to our program and the school because it helps bring attention to our success and to the success of the overall sports program at CHS. It’s important to our athletes who put many hours of hard work into being the best team in our conference.”
Competing against bigger…and in some cases, “better” teams can be challenging, but these athletes rose to the challenge.
Even though all the swimmers and divers did great, Coach Williams stated, “Our girls had a very solid team effort. While we put several girls on top of the podium, we also went 1-2-3 in several events as well. We had some great swims and dives during the meet. Freshman diver Maci Turner had an outstanding performance finishing third behind seniors London Moore and Courtney Shostrand.
Senior Jackson Bolinger swam one of his best meets and helped the boys team come through with a total team effort.
“The boys did everything we asked them to do in preparing for the meet and they really executed,” said Williams.
The girls have had an incredible season, winning their third ICC title . The ladies capped the threepeat after winning titles in 2022 and following in 2023.
The boys 400 Free relay, consisting of Caden Potters, Cason VonEhrenkrook, Noah Bush and Evan Franklin set a new school record. According to Williams, “This was the only time this group swam this relay all season, and they wanted to set that record.”
These swimmers have been with each other the entire season and know their strengths and weaknesses. Being able to communicate with one another, to cheer on and lead everyone of them to win these titles contributed to the team mentality and success.
Congratulations to all of these amazing athletes for making the memorable season possible and to all the seniors and captains for leading the team to this incredible accomplishment.
