Friday, August 31, 2018 the Cadets answered the bell against the Brown County Eagles after a blowout at Monrovia a week prior. Cascade controlled the entire game with a big win, 42 – 20. Senior Connor Horning was something to watch as he scored four touchdowns as well as the offensive linemen as they opened up lanes for the running backs. It was a night full of amazing plays and tackles.
The beginning of their victorious night started off with sophomore Joey Nogle giving his unbelievable skills on the guitar, playing the National Anthem. Nogle’s skills on the guitar fired up the team as they were ready to take the W against the Eagles.
Cascade had big gains in the beginning of the game by freshman Jackson Mantooth, with a 28-yard run, followed by Horning with a 15-yard gain. The drive was finished by Horning with a three-yard touchdown by the end of the first quarter that made the score 7-0.
The second quarter was a little rocky, but the Cadets managed to pull through and got the ball back by forcing a three-and-out by the Eagles. Junior Cole Edwards found the end zone and gave Cascade a lead of 14-0. Horning also scored another touchdown making the score 21-0. The Eagles picked up some momentum and made the score 21-8 with Cascade in the lead.
The Cadets gained field position after a powerful block by senior Cameron Ginter. This lead Horning to his third touchdown of the night on a 6-yard touchdown run. The score at the end of the second quarter was 28-8.
In the beginning of the third quarter, Brown County had another touchdown. Edwards found the end zone for the second time scoring a touchdown-ending the third quarter with Cascade 35 and Brown County 14.
In the fourth quarter, Horning rushed for his fourth and last touchdown of the night. The Eagles got their final touchdown in the fourth quarter making the final score 42-20.
Coach Spinks summarized the game as “…a solid win for the team. This is a big win for us going into another conference game this Friday against the Clovers.”
