The school year is winding down for everyone, and for seniors, it means closing a chapter. But it also means opening a new one. Luke Lawson, Salutatorian for this year’s graduating class, is looking forward to that next adventure.
For the past 13 years, Lawson has a Mill Creek student, attending Mill Creek East Elementary. He has been in a number of school clubs such as National Honor Society, Student Council and Spell Bowl.
Becoming a Valedictorian or Salutatorian for your graduating class in high school is a big deal. Many high school students could only dream that they could up on the stage leading their grade and showing why they have been chosen to fulfil that role.
Lawson stated, “ I have mixed emotions. It is a great honor to be Salutatorian. However, at the end of senior year, I will actually be tied for the highest gpa in the class. I will be recognized as Co-Valedictorian on the plaque, but Salutatorian at the graduation ceremony. Lawson is a great example of someone who strives to do their best and achieve great things in school.
Advice that Lawson would give to younger students that come after him would be “to embrace the challenges that you will be faced with over the next four years.”
After graduation Luke plans to finish his education at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, studying Mechanical Engineering and will continue his internship at Buzzi Unicem over the summer. He said, “I was interested in both medicine and engineering. I was invited to attend a medical symposium in Boston during the summer proceeding my junior year, where I had the opportunity to attend a live surgery. The summer proceeding senior year, I attended an engineering summer program at Purdue University. I enjoyed applying my skills in math and physics to find new and innovative solutions to everyday problems.”
Wherever and whatever the future holds, one thing is for sure; Luke Lawson will be on the top of his game.
