Cascade High School has an excellent abundance of awards and honors, and the newest one to be added to that list is the Purple Star award. This award however, is only given to the schools who are most honorable to the military and veterans.
A Purple Star School is one that helps and supports veterans both inside and outside their community. It also shows and gives respect as well, and makes sure to show the importance of military and veterans to both studentsand even teachers in that community.
Purple Star is a very important and significant award for any schools as it shows their unwavering dedication and strength for the veterans in their community and beyond.
Cascade has done many honorable and great things for the military, allowing the school to achieve Purple Star. The requirements for this award are tall, yet the school achieved it very recently. Some of these requirements include, but are not limited to, public announcements for their commitment and service, annual military programs, active web page for veterans, and a public military display.
The very supportive school also helps veterans in its community, and their families, receive the help they need. Cascade also makes sure to keep students informed about the sacrifices veterans make by having Veterans Day convocations that students attend.
In Indiana, the award is bestowed upon schools by the Indiana Department of Education, and every three years it must be renewed to maintain the status of Purple Star.
Princioal Jeffery Hansel, himself a member of the military, believes that the most important part of the Purple Star is honoring and recognizing those who sacrificed, and gave up portions of their lives to ensure the well being of both the nation, and the people who live there.
This award is a very important and significant accolade that few schools in the State of Indiana possess. This just makes schools like Cascade more special to both their communities, and to other schools in the state of Indiana.
Once again, CHS leads by the great example of doing the things that make their school a marvelous place. From academics to sports to their dedication and commitment to the people o the community, Cascade is its own shining star.
