The Cadets soccer team jut had one of the most successful seasons the school has ever seen. Whether it was the big wins, or massive blowouts, the team has looked strong through every victory. This all came with the help of senior Lane Trump and junior Declan Dodson.
Trump and Dodson were recently named back-to-back IndyStar players of the week, and both had very successful seasons.
Trump had 19 goals this season, as well as adding 29 assists to his statline. Dodson on the other hand, racked up the goals as well with 18, and added 7 assists. Both players have put up the statistics to make an impact on the team, but what they do off the field helps bring the Cadets success.
Lane is not only a key contributor to the team but is a leader of the team as a senior. As picked by the coaches, Trump is also a captain of the Cadets soccer team. He has played soccer since he was younger and started loving soccer due to him watching FC Barcelona.
Trump is also a great student in school keeping good grades while being the captain of the soccer team. He is a gifted player but had to work for it, with conditioning over the summer to stay in shape. Trump hasn’t decided where he wants to go to college, but is wanting to go somewhere to play some more soccer.
Trump knows the team has a bright future ahead saying, “I think the team will still be good next year but new people will have to step up like this year.”
It wasn’t much of a surprise for Trump to win this award, but all he cares about is to work harder and the team’s success. Which drives him to keep going and be a better player. He was happy for his teammate, Declan Dodson, to win the award a week after, responding with,
“I thought it was really cool that Declan got it as well because he is a great player and I have enjoyed playing with him over the years.”
Dodson, a junior, believes that a major key to the team’s success is good chemistry between the players and coaches. He said, “Team morale was very good this season because we trust each other to make the right plays.”
Although Dodson is getting the attention for his work on the field, Declan is a prestigious student in the classroom. He currently is a member of the National Honor Society and is a straight A student.
It’s clear he is a hard worker, and his work in the offseason showed it as well. He understands being successful starts at practice and the weight room, which is where he was for most of his summer.
“Over the summer I lifted weights and practiced soccer five days a week.” It’s evident that Dodson is a hard worker in everything he does, which makes him very deserving of his IndyStar player of the week. He isn’t satisfied with just one award, and it has “inspired me to do better and hopefully get another player of the week,” said Dodson.
Most schools aren’t fortunate enough to see one IndyStar player of the week on the same team, but the Cascade students, staff, and soccer team are catching a glimpse of greatness with two. After an amazing season, it is easy to see why they are so deserving.
