With so many clubs at Cascade, there are many opportunities. To some it may be a daunting task to find the group that’s just right for you. So here are some of the options, whether you need help finding a club, or are just curious about what CHS offers.
First and foremost, there’s FCA, or the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. This club is for those who want to learn more about or get closer to Christ. FCA’s mission is to help build students’ knowledge of Jesus and provide an outreach to those who want to know more about the Christian faith. FCA meets every other Friday at 7:15 AM in room 215.
FFA is a national organization spanning from the state of Alaska to the Virgin Islands and from the state of Maine to Alaska. FFA has a chapter meeting every first Tuesday of the month, which is mainly run by FFA president, senior Whitney Smith. At meetings, they discuss upcoming events and contests.
Spell Bowl meets after school on Tuesdays and Wednesdays until about 3:30. Tuesdays are “fun practice” and are designed for students to practice the words and do board races. Wednesdays are “test practice.” Each week the highest speller makes a list of words from what is being studied, and a guest speller (which is a teacher) comes in, and any student who beats them gets a full-sized candy bar. The person who has the highest points makes the word list for the following week.
Book Club meets every other Thursday to talk about books you are currently reading and good reads you have had in the past. Sometimes, they do crafts.
National Honor Society is not only an academic staple, it is also a great opportunity to give back to the community. NHS members are expected to have high grades, maintain them and also to have a high level of distinguished conduct. They schedule organized service for the community, and meet either before school or after to accommodate student schedules. You must be a junior or senior to apply.
If you want help out the community, but don’t meet the requirements for NHS, the brand new Community Service Club is for you. The goal of the new club is to connect students to non-profit organizations in the community so they can do service projects for a cause they are passionate about.
If you are an artistic student, you could consider Art Club. Here, you can expect to do fun themed activities such as creative games, personal projects and art for the community, such as face painting at several CHS events. Art Club hosts its meetings every other Thursday after school from 3-4.
Student Council is another great option if you want to be in a leadership position. Student Council is in charge of planning homecoming. They pick the themes, design the shirts and lead the hallway decorating. This group meets once or twice a month before school.
Students Against Destructive Decisions is a national, non-profit organization that is dedicated to the safety of all students. SADD meets in Mrs. Moeller’ room every other Monday at 7:15.
Last but not least, you could try Drama Club, which is part of the Cadet Theater Company. Students participate in plays, musicals and compete as well in musical theater and acting categories at the state competition. Drama Club meets weekly on Monday from 3 to 4.
Since there seems to be something for everyone, why not get involved?
