At this age, many kids gain more responsibility, the ability to drive and make a lot of their own decisions. This leads to teens having or wanting a job.
As teenagers are still young, they can’t get the most lucrative jobs, but there are still so many different jobs that interest them. Some of the many jobs that teens tend to work in are fast food, retail and human services.
The fast food industry strikes the teenage audience as an amazing job. Many teens prefer to work in fast food over other jobs because they need an easy, simple job that pays enough. The fast food industry also has a very flexible schedule allowing teens to work around school and sports. In addition, fast food jobs give teens a way to work with others, building bonds with all sorts of people.
Fast food jobs also provide employees with free food. This helps teens tremendously because they don’t have to spend the money they just earned on food.
But fast food can also have a negative side. According to junior, Ayla Hayes, who works at Subway, “It’s an easy job, but dealing with customers everyday is irritating.”
Working in retail also attracts the attention of many teenagers. Retail is a great job for many teens because it gives young adults opportunities in sales, stock management and customer service. Working in retail also gives experience in handling transactions, organizing stock and interacting with customers.
Retail sometimes also gives teen employees discounts within the department. This is a very good benefit for teens who need money, helping them save more for gas, food, clothes, etc.
Junior Braxton Lewis, who works at Going, Going, Gone said, “Working in retail can be challenging at times due to the multiple tasks at once, but is worth the work for the experience.”
Lastly, working in human services is also a well-liked option for teens. Human services is a popular job because it gives teens a way to work closely with others and help change peoples lives for the better.
Jobs in human services for teens include babysitter, nursing home care, dog walker, etc. These types of jobs help teens work with others and grow a personal connection with each customer, making the job feel less like a chore.
Another benefit to working in this field is that teens get paid a good amount to help people and make a good impact on their lives. Junior Jordyn Darnell, who works customer service for an auto repair shop, “ I love being able to do what I’m passionate about while being able to help people at the same time.”
There are lots of different ways teenagers can find work and make money. These first jobs are sometimes a gateway to the future. But for now, it’s a great way to make money and gain experience.
