There are many things that go on behind the scenes for planning a day at school for classes. Many teachers spend hours planning and preparing for week. Art teacher, Mrs. Morris, is a champion in this capacity.
Morris teaches six different classes throughout the day including Intro to 2D and 3D art, painting, ceramics, drawing and yearbook. Each of these classes provides an opportunity for students to express themselves in a way that they haven’t been able to experience before.
Morris stated that “In each class, we do a variety of projects. I try to give students a general idea of a project to learn a specific skill, and then I allow them to make it their own based on their personal interests.”
Art is an important part of who we are because you get to express yourself freely without feeling judged or being harshly criticized. Art can be expressed in any type of way. If you’re someone that loves to draw or think outside the box, then you need to take an art class with Mrs. Morris.
But she is more than just an art teacher. Morris is someone you can go to if you’re feeling down sad, or just want someone to talk to. Feeling like you have a place to belong is important, and Morris values and understands needing a place to fit in.
“I truly believe everyone can benefit from art, even if they aren’t as good at it as they’d like to be. Art class is a space where students can feel safe to rediscover their creativity that so often gets lost in their teenage years.”
Many people are often shy or more conservative in their teenage years and art can be an outlet. “Art class is for learning, so no one is expected to be the best artist when I give them a project. You don’t have to be perfect, you just need to try,” Morris said.
Art classes are a way to improve your skills, confidence and make you more comfortable in general. If you find yourself struggling, maybe consider taking some type of art class or something relating to art.
