Hoping to ride off the wave of success this season, the Cascade boys soccer team is looking to come out on fire again this season.
The Cadets are coming off of a 16-2-1 season taking their second sectional title in the last three years. Eight seniors graduated last year including forward Ethan Edwards who tied the record for goals in one season.
But the Cadets have a strong senior class this season led by Max Stucky at forward, Colson Mendenhall and Lane Trump in the midfield, Evan Warren leading the defense and Jude Johnson at goalie locking down the net.
Head Coach, David Moeller explained his plan of action, saying, “I plan on preparing this team by building chemistry among this group and getting players comfortable with each other.”
According to Moeller, “We have good young talent stepping up to the varsity level this season. Sophomores Brogan Trump and Caleb Mayo will be making a big impact on this team going forward.”
The Cadets have some big games this year including Crawfordsville, Bishop Chatard and Danville. The soccer team beat Danville in the sectional championship with a narrow 1-0 victory last season. Danville remains in the same sectional as the Cadets, so this matchup will have some tension this year.
The boys had a strong showing this summer in the scrimmages beating Avon and Forest Park. The preseason rankings in the coaches poll have Cascade at number 12 in the class of 2A, and the Indystar boys soccer rankings have the cadets at number 4 in class 2A. The team will be looking to continue climbing the rankings.
Senior midfielder Luke Mayo stated his role and expectations for this season and he said, “I am a midfielder and a strong leader on this team. This squad has great chemistry and it is a great environment to be a part of. From team practices to games we have a great bond on this team.”
The sky is the limit for this team as the strength is all over the field. Without a conference, but with goals in sight, the season will be amazing.
“Our players show out and compete regardless,” said Moeller.
