As the new school year rolls around, and the Fall season hits, so does cross country.
Last year the boys and girls won the Beech Grove Invitational. The boys also won the Mitchell and Shakamak invites as well as the ICC title.
“We’re on a strong run of performance over the last few years, and hope to keep it going,” says Head Coach, Nick Puckett.
Going into the 2024 season, the XC team has a lot of great returning runners, inlcluing a strong core of seniors.
Returning to the team this year are seniors Noah Vela, Payton Shute, Elijah Cook and Savannah Shotwell. Some other runners from last year are back to improve on strong performances are Aly Nething, Josie Sharp, Lincoln Kauffman, Ian Dockery, Kelton vonEhrenkrook and Silas Neeley.
Senior Rylee Smith joined the team this year as an excellent new addition. She saw success after joining track last year, and hopes to continue to progress in her running this fall.
The 3-time conference champs will be unable to compete for a fourth due to the upcoming 2025 conference change to the MAC.
The team runs against anywhere between 10 and 30 schools every weekend, so they get to see schools from all locations and sizes. They hope to do well in most of the meets and also have some titles to defend, so hopefully, they can show up and show out at the marquee races.
