One more rep, one more set, one more serve. The Cascade volleyball team has been put in the work this summer through rigorous weights and practice in preparation for their upcoming season.
According to head coach Stacey Begle, the team moved up a class from 2A to 3A and will be playing in a new sectional at Speedway this season. Last year the team had a standout year with a season record of 24-10 and a sectional championship under their belt.
Senior Sofia Eaton can contest that the team has put in maximum effort to move forward in success this season and out-train their competition. She explained that this preparation was seen with higher intensity during summer training, “We played many surrounding schools and worked on important skills during practice so that we could compete on an even higher level.”
Coach Begle is confident their preparation this summer and continuing into the school year will lead to a sectional win and the chance to compete at home for a regional title.
Last season was the end of the road for 5 exceptional seniors, including graduated senior Avery Litterel who greatly contributed to the team with 1000 digs. Luckily 5 senior varsity starters will be stepping into the spotlight to add on to their achievements.
Senior Lilly Hall contested that the loss of 5 outstanding seniors has not impacted the connectivity of the team as a whole. In fact, the leadership on the team this year has helped create an increasingly welcome and positive atmosphere. “I’m looking forward to winning lots of games and making this season fun and enjoyable for everyone,” Hall explained.
Eaton will be an asset to the team this season as one of the five senior varsity starters and specifically as an outstanding defensive specialist. “I am a strong passer with a consistent and reliable server who brings excitement and energy to the court,” she explained.
Hall, a Middle front row player, will be crucial with her strong abilities of blocking and hitting hard on the open spots on the court. Senior Grace Gray will also be a key player this season coming off an incredible accomplishment of reaching 1000 assists last season.
It’s safe to say that the CHS volleyball team is primed and ready to face off new sectional teams. “We have big things coming this season and should be expecting lots of wins,” Hall stated.
