Fans and players have been waiting patiently for the release of the new college football video game. After 10 long years, it is finally here. But what took them so long?
It all started in 2009 when a UCLA basketball player, Ed O’Bannon, filed a lawsuit against the National Collegiate Athletic Association that would forever change college athletics.
The suit against the NCAA and CLC claimed players were not benefiting from their name, image and likeness. He won the lawsuit, which created a plethora of problems from 2009 to 2015.
These problems were the catalyst for power conferences to abandon their licenses with organizations in fear that the NCAA would suspend top players and teams from competing.
After these events, the NCAA banned EA sports from creating any college sports video games, ultimately ending the dynasty. However, that all changed July 1, 2021, when the NCAA allowed players to make a profit off of their name, image, and likeness because players wanted to make money off of their popularity. This created a hope from fans everywhere that EA would soon release NCAA Football once again.
On July 16, 2024 the long wait finally came to a close. For $99.99 gamers could buy the deluxe edition of NCAA Football 25 in pre-sale release. The full game was released on July 19, and five million people have already bought the game so far.
With multiple game modes, gamers can choose what kind of game they want to play. Spanning from playing with friends, rebuilding your favorite team or even simulating a whole career as yourself, the game has quickly become one of the most popular ones on the market.
There have been a few flaws to the game, but the biggest one involves the availability console compatibility. Gamers can only hook up on Playstation 5 and XBOX Series X|S.
With multiple players not owning the consoles, the purchasing of them has greatly increased. Another complaint in the game is the wanting mode, mascot mashup, which is exactly what it sounds like. However, EA decided to not include the game mode, upsetting many.
An anonymous online review claims, “The gameplay is the best I’ve experienced.”
It’s safe to say that the game has not disappointed many, and hopefully EA continues to create new college football games every year.
