Winter homecoming came and went again this year, and it was one to be remembered.
This year included cool dress up days, games, and of course the crowning of the homecoming court. The fun was escalated with class competitions that were arranged for each grade level to compete with the others for the title of each competition winner.
Dress up days included PJ Day, Pink Day to support Sheltering Wings, senior citizen day, superhero day, and spirit day.
Students and teachers alike celebrated with enthusiasm and came up with many creative outfits to show their support for CHS. One honorable mention was Mr. Puckett, who teaches freshman math. He dressed in an incredible head-to-toe Superman outfit for superhero day. The freshman class took the win for the dress up competition, with impeccable attire everyday of the week.
The senior class won the homecoming game at Friday’s pep session. This game was Limbo Relay race, and was hilarious to watch as nominees slammed into each other and nearly fell over in their rush to the finish. They were cheered on by a roaring crowd from the students watching from the bleachers.
The pep session also featured 12th grade teacher Mrs. Stonebreaker being smacked in the face with a pie by sophomore Brady Trebley, who was selected to do the honors.
The seniors took the cake for donating the most money in the Riley donations competition, and selected Mrs. Stonebreaker to be pied in the face for their victory. In total the student body donated $134.21 to Riley Children’s Hospital.
After the all the activities were completed and all the competition winners were awarded, an impromptu teacher dance battle took place featuring the math teachers.
Mr. Eldridge, Mr. Puckett, Mr. Moeller and Mr. Alspaugh were chosen to compete in an epic dance off. Mr. Eldridge unanimously took the win with a hilarious solo to the song “Love Story” by Taylor Swift.
The Cadets sadly lost their tough fight with Beech Grove at the homecoming basketball game, but it was still entertaining with a tight score the entire game, and the crowning of the homecoming court at halftime.
The freshman prince winner was Kelton Vonehrenkrook, the sophomore winner was Brandon White and the junior winner was Cash Kingery. The highlight was the crowning of Senior Homecoming King and Queen, Cason Vonehrenkrook and Lilly Johnson.
The final piece to the homecoming fun was the class banner competition. Each grade level created a paper banner to hang above their designated hallways that featured superhero decorations. The junior class stole the show with an amazing Batman themed banner.
With so many unforgettable moments and new activities that brought the whole school together, there was just one thing missing to complete this years homecoming celebration as there was homecoming dance dance.
Homecoming did what it never fails to do; it brought the whole community together to celebrate our amazing school.
