Ivy tech comes with a lot of benefits to your education, but also looks great for when you apply to colleges.
Ivy Tech is a dual college credit program. This means the classes you take will transfer over as credits once you get to college. As you gain college credits while in high school, you are also saving yourself money which is always a plus.
It may not sound as appealing as it sounds up front because you are already starting a college class in high school. However, in college you still will have to take these classes and in a much different atmosphere. You won’t be surrounded by your classmates whom you already know, which is a lot less intimidating.
You may not be sure whether to choose AP classes or Ivy Tech. While AP classes look good on your transcript, they do not benefit much in college. Most seniors choose Ivy Tech because the work is actually for college credit.
There are three Ivy Tech classes that are available to take at CHS; speech, English and politics. Each class is one day a week for three hours with small breaks. If you think that may be too stressful for you, there are options where you don’t have to take all 3 classes; you can choose.
If you have the opportunity to take these classes, it is highly encouraged by current students Senior Alison Bowers says, “I recommend everyone take Ivy Tech if they can because it is a great way to get a head start before college and get the experience of what college classes will be like.”
So as you start to plan for the future, keep in mind that this is an option for gaining momentum.
