After coming off a tragic sectional championship loss in 2022, Cascade Cadets boys soccer has been doing great this year and a person to watch is junior, Colson Mendenhall.
Mendenhall was recently nominated for IndyStar soccer player of the week. But his personal success comes secondary to team goals.
Mendenhall said, “It feels great to be nominated for the work I’ve done, but in the end, I couldn’t do it without teammates and coaches.”
Mendenhall has loved soccer since he was little and his dad was who helped him fall in love with the game. His dynamic work ethis has elevated him to his current status as a leader.
“Being on the soccer team is like having a second family. I know all the guys on the team are there for me and I am there for them,” Mendenhall said.
Teammates of Mendenhall say his leadership and communication skills help the team to have a lot of success.
Not only is he a great soccer player, but he is also a straight-A student with a high GPA.
The Cadets are sporting an impressive record despite a loss to conference rival Speedway. They have won three conference games against Beech Grove, Monrovia and Lutheran.
Mendenhall said they are going to build off their success they had last year and take it into sectionals this year. Behind his keen leadership and hard work, the sky is the limit.
