CHS theater students have been extremely productive this summer. Ever since the end of the 2022-2023 theater season in April, many students have been busy rehearsing and preparing for community productions for the coming summer months. These include two productions by the Avon based community theater company known as The Biz. The shows include “Chicago Teen Edition” and “SpongeBob the Musical.” Some students were also a part of ‘Grease” for the Putnam County Playhouse.
“Chicago” ran on an impressive four weeks of rehearsal before releasing in late June to overwhelming success and acclaim. Senior Justus Palumbo said, “Chicago was the most successful show and most professional thing I have been a part of and everyone involved is on another level of talent. “
Palumbo was featured as male lead, Billy Flynn. The show also featured the talents of new staff member Ms. Scott as Mama Morton and 2023 graduate Hailey Seymour as reporter Mary Sunshine.
“We had four successful shows with great audiences at all of them. Great feedback was given from many viewers. I personally hadn’t been a lead part since I graduated from CHS so it was a challenge but a lot of fun,” said Scott.
“SpongeBob” began rehearsals shortly after “Chicago” wrapped up and began running its shows on August 6th. Although not received quite as well as “Chicago,” “SpongeBob” still came out as a fairly large success and was received quite well.
“It was rocky but a blast! Our show unfortunately got canceled on opening due to weather conditions. This show being outside makes it quite difficult in that aspect. From a gallon of paint spilling onto our sets and costumes to an entire set falling apart during one of my scenes, it was a very eventful day,” said Scott.
The show featured senior John Reach as Patrick Star, senior Margaret Holtsclaw as Larry the Lobster Scott as Pearl Krabs.
But don’t think that Cascade is done with theater for the year and you’ve missed your chance to catch a great show.”
The CHS Drama Club’s production of “Puffs, or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic” is set to release in late October.
