            It’s almost time of year again. Yep everybody’s favorite, summertime.  Normally summer is a time to relax, but for some people it’s the busiest time of the year because they have to go out and get their first job. High Schoolers typically don’t know what job they want and finding one that fits this schedule can be strenuous.  To help, indeed.com has listed some jobs for teens they include server, barista, usher, babysitter, and more. 

        having a job is time consuming and it can definitely be exhausting.  So finding a job that fits a teens needs while giving free time for extracurriculars can be necessary, and it doesn’t hurt to have a good paycheck too. The average pay for a teenager in Indiana is $16.09 per hour. A job as a waiter locally pays $5.77 – $23.80 depending on the years of experience. 

         Most high school students don’t know what to do with their money other than spend it, but it’s always good to save your money and start a savings account  for college, long term goals, gas, or paying off a car. However, having money also gives the freedom of shopping for what you want.

Zippa.com states that, “The top easiest jobs to get are waiting tables, a customer service specialist, and a retail clerk. Most of these jobs listed require great customer service skills and strong communication skills.” Those who are looking for a easy first job nearby, there are plenty of places looking for employees. Sophomore Caitlyn Burton said “ I have a job and I work at Clayton Pizza king and work around 3 days and 2 times a week with working around 3:30-9pm.” She only works part time in order to be able to have time to still be a teen.

            There are always options for part time work. Some fast food places hiring part time near Plainfield are Burger King, Dairy Queen, Panera, and KFC. However, if you are not a fan of working in Fast Food there are plenty of retail stores looking for workers. These include places like Old Navy, Five Below, Speedway, Ross, and many more, so don’t be discouraged there is always a job waiting for new members, even teens. 

         Everyone has their preferred places to work, and it can be hard to find the best place, but there are plenty of jobs nearby that can help high schoolers gain experience in the workforce.. So no matter the extracurriculars, there is always a job waiting and willing to work with all kinds of schedules.
