Life of the quarantined

Life of the quarantined

Staying home and learning virtually isn’t my favorite thing to do, but when it has to happen, I just deal with it because I know I will be back in person soon.
Here’s how the longest week of my life went.
I woke up at around 7:30 a.m. to get ready for my first Google meet of the day, Geometry. Now let’s be honest here, I never look appealing when I first wake up so my camera is off, but I’m alert to answer questions.
If I were asked to have my camera on, all I needed to do was put a different shirt on, so it didn’t seem like I was in one shirt the entire day. Pants on the other hand were either in sweatpants or spandex since I find it a must that I am comfortable throughout my day.
I only had three teachers who held Google meets each day, so I would spend the time in between sleeping or catching up on late work. Being the teenager that I am, I would always choose sleep over late assignments, and would do the late assignments later in the day.
Since I didn’t have any face-to-face with my homies because they were all at school, I would FaceTime friends and ‘talk’ to them during lunch. It wouldn’t be everyday because my mom would ask if I wanted to go get food and of course I said yes. Like who gives up that offer? Not me.
This went on day after day until Friday, when I was so tired of it that I lost motivation to get on my first period Google meet. Let’s just say, there was an interesting encounter when Mr. Anderson would call on me.
I logged into the meet, was awake for attendance and I’m not really sure what happened after that.
I did not wake up until five minutes before class was over, literally enough time to log off. I have been told by different classmates that when Mr. Anderson would call on me and I didn’t answer, he would say, “I will get back to you and if you don’t answer I’m going to have to kick you out of the meeting.”
Apparently that was just a way for him to try and get me to answer, but little did he know I was knocked out on the other side of the screen. Now this has turned into a joke we have everytime I walk into his class. Each day he says, “Hey Alexys, are you going to be awake today?”
That really was my life for the week. I couldn’t support the girls basketball team during sectionals in person, but I watched it on the T.V. and still cheered them on.
The thing that messed up my sleep schedule was the fact that I knew I didn’t have to be up super early like usual. And, I had free periods to sleep, so I stayed up all night…every night.
So for those of you that want to be quarantined so that you don’t have to be at school, it’s not as fun as you would think. And trust me, it’s easier to stay up on your work in class versus being at home.
