The Cascade varsity boys soccer team is looking for another successful season in 2023.
Under the helm of Head Coach David Moeller and led by team captains Ari Moore, Dane Hendricks and Drake Dodson, the team began the season ranked #20 in the preseason polls.
Last season the Cadets finished with 15 wins, 4 losses, and a tie, finished runner-up in the Indiana Crossroads Conference and made it all the way to the sectional championship where their season ended in a tough loss to Crawfordsville.
When asked about his thoughts on this year’s seniors, Coach Moeller said, ¨This group of seniors has been, talent wise, one of the best, if not the best group I have ever coached at the high school level. They are a committed group, leaders and role models for the underclassman.”
Moeller’s analysis of this team is that the varsity squad is loaded with upper-class talent. They are fast with lots of technical ability and a deep bench.
On the topic of hopes and expectations for this season, Moeller said, ¨I think we were all disappointed by how last season ended, losing in the sectional final. This year we have the goal to win sectionals and our conference. I believe we have the talent to compete with any team in the 2A class.¨
The Cadets have some big games this season, including Speedway and Chatard.
“Both teams are preseason Top 20 teams. Speedway is ranked #8 and Bishop Chatard is ranked #18. The Speedway game has decided the conference winner the last two years,¨ said Moeller.
The team is off to a blazing start with two mercy-rule wins right out of the gate. With this level of play already being exhibited, the season will certainly be entertaining and competitive.
