The girls basketball team is on the rise with sectional play coming up after just setting a new school record by picking up their 18th win. 

This team is a special group that was focused on not only getting the win record, but has had their sights set on big accomplishments all season.

The team finished as the Hendricks County runners-up after getting a big win over Avon before losing a hard-fought battle against eventual champion, Brownsburg. Since then, the team has been hard at work in practice and games to ensure they have a good game plan for tournament play.

Now the girls have their eyes on a sectional title and have been improving on the basics since the county tournament.  Assistant Coach Nick Puckett said, “After losing to Brownsburg in a close game, we have improved upon how to close out a game.”

Seniors Christina Lamb and Cora Lopossa have been leading the team this whole season. Puckett said of the duo, “Both girls have battled through injury and illness and they have still shown toughness and grit to get through practice each day.” 

Other players like Abby Parsons, Creedence Chittenden, Liviair Campbell, Sydney Warran, Madison Short and Claire Austin have all had their time on the court this season and are preparing everyday to contribute what it takes to finish a strong tournament run. 

The girls team drew number five ranked University for the first round of sectionals, which, according to Campbell, is a good match.  She said, “We have been keeping up with their schedule and scouting them out, as well as working on ourselves to make sure we are in our best shape.” 

The girls basketball team is more than just a team; it’s a sisterhood. Expect to see big things from these girls as their season comes to a close.
