What have I gotten myself into?
September 21, 2021
I did it.
I joined the news staff.
Joining the Mass Media class was biting off a lot more than I had originally thought.
My personality is not one to express extreme amounts of emotion, which is a downside when communicating the news.
I am always being reminded to show even a little bit of excitement while shooting the news, even when I think I am doing a phenomenal job.
More often than not, I am NOT doing a phenomenal job. People often tell me that I sound less monotone in a real conversation than when I am up on the desk.
One thing to make sure you have when joining the news is a solid personality.
It is really important to be able to get in front of the camera and act like what you are reading is the most interesting arrangement of words that has ever been put together in the history of the world. That is where I fall short, because sometimes the things we say on the news are not the most interesting things. But, like Ms. Bauer says, “fake it ’til you make it.”
A hidden part of this class that many don’t know about is that we have to write articles for the newspaper.
To write articles, you have to have good writing skills and the ability to pump a lot of information into a small amount of space. I used to think that I was a good writer, but now that I am writing this article, I now know that is not true.
Despite the content of the Mass Media not necessarily being for me, it still has to be one of my favorite classes this year. The environment of the class cannot be rivaled by another and I have a blast in there regardless of if I am good at it or not. There are a lot of good friends in that media room that makes it an enjoyable experience that I look forward to throughout the day.
