This year, the Cascade High School swim team has done a phenomenal job. Our swimmers have been exemplary, pushing themselves to new heights through extreme dedication and lots of hard work.
Compared with previous seasons, the swim team is doing the best it has ever done with 10 wins and only one loss.
The swim team continues to break records, such as the 100 backstroke record, previously held by Rachel Trent, now held by freshman Ellie Thompson, with a time of one minute and eight seconds. Also, Brendan Trent set a new school record for six dives with a score of 311.30.
After holiday break, the swim team kept on swimming. At the Tri-West meet, the ladies won, 112-68 and moved to 8-1. Although girls moved up boys fell short 102-66 and became 4-4 in the season. Logan Carlisle and Torie Potters were named the outstanding meet performers of this meet.
At the North Putnam meet, the girls were again victorious by a score of, 124-48. The boys fell to the Cougars, 79-48. Emma Ginter and Leo Stevens were named the outstanding performers of this meet.
Last but definitely not least, the girls swim team got another win over Greencastle with 117-68, While the boys finished up with 103-72.
Following the lead given to them by the seniors, the underclassmen are doing very well. The seniors have done an exceptional job training and preparing them. This year there is 11 senior swimmers and two senior swim managers.
Sectionals are one of the most anticipated events for the swimmers. The boys’ team come to support the girls’ team and dress up for support. For example, last year the boys dressed up as Spongebob characters and elderly people.
So show your support, try coming out to the many other upcoming events, such as conference which is to be held this Saturday, the 19th, or the sectionals, which are set for the 31st of January and the 2nd of February.
