As the cross country season is winding down, the Cadets are preparing for the conference meet and sectionals in the coming week.

While almost all of the meets have been “under water,” the Cadets have pulled through over some rough courses and tough competition.

In the beginning of the season, the Cadets traveled to Danville to compete in the Hendricks County Championships in some hot and humid weather.

The boys team placed 5th out of six teams and the girls placed 4th out of five teams. For many of the Cadet runners, this was their first varsity race.
Next came the Avon Invitational. Many of the athletes received season personal bests on this course. It was a dry day with the girls placing 4th out of seven and the boys coming in 6th out of 8 with some tough, big school competition.

The Jon Mitchell Invitational was the Cadet’s only home meet and several sports teams and fans came to cheer on the team. This was also senior day for seniors Chloe Whicker, Blake Collier, Kaleb Spears and Nathan Junod. The boys team finished 6th out of nine. Zach McIlrath got his overall PR at this meet. The girls team finished at a solid 2nd place out of five teams.

The Golden Spike Invitational had many ups and downs. The course was almost entirely under water, but the Cadets still competed! Caroline Edmondson and Sean Johnson placed in the top 20 at this meet. Many athletes placed in the top 100 of over 200 finishers overall. This meet was Harley Kline’s first ever cross country race after an injury all season, and she did a fantastic job competing. After the race, the girls team enjoyed playing in the puddles and water along the course.

This past weekend the teams competed at the Tiger Cub Invitational in Greencastle. For the girls, Caroline Edmonson placed 6th, Chloe Whicker, Bradi Cheesman, Harley Kline and Lora Fernandez each had a personal best time. Hannah Decker had a season best time. For the boys, Sean Johnson placed an astonishing 3rd, Nick Jones, Luke Fernandez, Garry Gill, Mason Christie and Levi Priest each had personal best times. Jonathan Osborne and Nathan Junod each provided a seasonal best time.

The Cadets head to their WIC meet in Terre Haute on October 1.
